Price around the results

Profit growth outpaced the operating base

L&T Finance reported consolidated net profit growth of 32.37% year on year, with revenue increasing 26.49%. Expenses grew faster at 27.77%, but operating profit still rose 25.69%; the higher profit before tax was therefore driven mainly by the larger operating base rather than other income. Other income contributed 0.0% of profit before tax.

Costs pushed the margin lower in Q2FY27

Sequentially, expenses grew 7.54% against 4.59% revenue growth, reducing operating margin by 1.06 percentage points. Interest expense was almost flat sequentially, rising 0.02%, but increased 20.57% year on year. The tax rate also rose by 0.33 percentage points sequentially and 0.56 percentage points year on year, so the profit increase was not aided by a lower tax rate.

Margin remains above the reported peer median

The 61.29% operating margin was below Q1FY27's 62.35%, but remained 1.76 percentage points above the 59.53% median for the 10 Financial Services peers that had reported. The quarterly margin path has been uneven: it rose to 61.67% in Q2FY26, fell to 60.39% in Q4FY26, then climbed in Q1FY27 before easing in the current quarter. This is a sequential pullback, not a third straight quarterly decline.

Management points to new digital distribution tools

Management said rural products are planned for introduction on the LdMS platform by mid-November 2026 and that customer launch of the Hercules agentic platform is targeted for December 2026. The company said Hercules, launched in beta in Q2FY27, had early traction in gold-loan lead conversions, while significant disbursement scale-up from the platform is expected by Q4FY27 and early FY28. Management also said it launched AI Citizen on the Gemini Enterprise Agent platform and is expanding it through a network of AI Champions.

No immediate market reaction after the filing

The consolidated results were filed after market close, so there is no post-result stock move to assess yet. Across the last eight result reactions, the stock rose four times and fell four times, with a median absolute move of 1.23%; the historical response has therefore been mixed rather than consistently directional.
