Today's Story
1 min readOil strength and option support frame the open
The tape is being set by a familiar squeeze: crude is still elevated, the rupee is softer, and that keeps the market cautious even after a constructive global lead. Gift Nifty at 24,388 is below its 24,417 close, while Nifty spot at 24,315.40 sits under the 24,400 max pain, so the early trade looks anchored by positioning more than conviction. Shanghai at 3,965.325 and the S&P 500 at 7,748.5 are both firmer, but that relief is not fully travelling through to Indian futures.
The evidence points to a market that is leaning on support rather than chasing upside. The put-call ratio at 0.7164 is not broad enough to call it a crowded long setup, yet the open interest stack is heavy at 24,000 with 8,835,775 puts and 591,110 calls, and again at 24,200 with 6,585,410 puts against 1,403,220 calls. That leaves spot 315.40 points above 24,000 but only 84.60 points below 24,400, so the board is still framing the range. Add Brent at 88.77 and WTI at 82.96, and the index’s ability to ignore energy remains the key test.
What changes the read is whether spot holds above the 24,300 area and starts rotating toward 24,400, or whether it slips back toward 24,000 where the heaviest strike memory sits. A move through 24,400 would tell you the market is clearing the pin and accepting the better global mood; failure there would keep the early tone defensive. Watch the rupee at 95.36 and Brent at 88.77 at the same time, because they are the quickest checks on whether the index can separate from the crude-led drag.
