The fund-selection playground
Every other site ranks funds by their trailing return. We checked whether that predicts anything, over ten years of AMFI data, and it does not — the rank of last year's winner tells you almost nothing about next year's. How a fund behaves in each kind of market does carry, because it comes from how the fund is built. So this page sorts on that instead, and shows you the months it used.
What this cannot tell you
6- Which state the market is in right now. Months are labelled from the NIFTY 500's distance below its own running peak, and a peak is only knowable afterwards. This describes what already happened; it does not tell you which column you are standing in today.
- Whether a fund will keep doing it. Behaviour transfers better than returns do, but “better” is not “reliably”. The manager can change, the mandate can change, and a fund that grew ten-fold cannot trade the way it did when it was small.
- Anything about a fund too young to judge. A fund needs a real record inside a state before it gets a number here. Funds short of that are excluded rather than shown with a flattering figure from one good quarter.
- What you should buy. We are not a registered investment adviser and this is not a recommendation. It is public AMFI data, arranged so you can see the evidence rather than a star rating standing in for it.
