Price around the results

Revenue drop drove a sharp sequential earnings reset

Consolidated revenue fell 33.27% sequentially to Rs 198.13 cr, taking operating profit down 69.14% to Rs 38.25 cr. Expenses declined only 7.58%, so they fell much more slowly than revenue and operating margin narrowed from 41.74% to 19.31%. Depreciation also rose 4.63%, adding to the pressure below operating profit.

Other income and tax benefit lifted reported profit quality

Other income rose 231.25% to Rs 66.15 cr and accounted for 136.17% of profit before tax, which limited the fall in pre-tax profit to 45.71%. The tax rate dropped 13.02 percentage points to -3.91%, further cushioning net profit, while interest expense fell 19.91%. The reported Rs 50.48 cr net profit therefore received material support from non-operating income and the negative tax charge.

Margin remained above the Services peer median

SEAMEC's 19.31% operating margin was 1.33 percentage points above the 17.98% median among 34 Services peers that had reported the quarter. The available quarterly comparison shows a steep sequential reversal rather than a multi-quarter trend: margin was 41.74% in Q1FY27. There is no year-on-year comparison in the reported results.

Management points to offshore activity and vessel demand

Management said India's offshore energy outlook remains encouraging because of energy-security efforts, domestic hydrocarbon production and lower import dependence. The presentation flags a pipeline of 25 offshore installations and more than 1,000 km of subsea pipelines over the next three years, and management said these developments could support demand for DSVs and OSVs. It also said the Samudra Manthan scheme has government-approved funding of Rs 84,084 cr through FY2030-31, while constrained vessel supply remains a very high-impact industry issue.
